Zach & Carisse’s First Floor Remodel

College Hills

Zach & Carisse live in a historic family home. We remodeled their kitchen and adjacent spaces, a laundry room & guest bathroom, while adding living space by converting their garage. We gutted the space down to the studs, raised the garage floor, and completely redesigned the flow of this whole part of the home.

Our design process walked them through some potential layouts. Originally, Zach & Carisse had pictured a U-shaped kitchen space, with a peninsula looking out over the living area. However, even though it would have been open to the living room, it was still going to feel cramped, and leave them with some wasted space. After some back and forth with potential layouts, Buck came up with this large island with the bar seating on the side, allowing flow through the kitchen into the living room without disrupting those working in the kitchen. Zach & Carisse loved it, and it has proven to be the perfect final layout for this kitchen!

Their new open kitchen / living space is much more functional for this family of five. The custom cabinets, leathered granite countertops, classic subway tile backsplash, and hardwood floors are truly timeless. We especially love the bookcase on the end of the island, tying in the kitchen with the living room and providing a pop of color. We absolutely love how this space is modern and updated, while still honoring the history of this beautiful family home!
